By 8:00am, me and Jessica were up and training for the last
time. “Do you think they’re ready?” I asked for the hundredth time. I was
finally getting a little nervous. At the party, we played and ate like all the
other kids, trying to calm down. Tess mucked up in practice half an hour before
we performed, so we were tense, expecting her to mess up. It was time to
perform. Mummy gathered everyone to watch. “Oh my crikey, this crowd is huge!”
I gasped. The audience had gathered and there were over thirty people! But I
wouldn’t back down now. “Is everybody here?” I called out. They were all there.
I began my routine. First, Sparkie jumped over a walking stick, and then held
it with her foreleg. There were cheers from the crowd. Then Sparkie backed
between my legs, and bowed. More cheers. Jessica went out with Tess and
performed her routine. The audience loved it. Then the together routine. A
twist in unison, Tess stood on her hind legs, Sparkie did three roll over’s in
quick succession, and then both dogs leapt onto our backs like mirrors of each
other. Oh, how the audience cheered! It was perfect. “Well done, Sparkie,” I
murmured, “I’m so proud of you, my fully awesome pup!”
