Sparkie In High Jump 2011
_
It was 4:12pm on
the 20th of May. We walked out in front of thousands of people to
compete in the High Scramble. Chana came with us, and held Sparkie while I went
to the top of the jump. "Ok, come! Get up!" Chana let Sparkie go and
she ran towards the jump, then swerved and ran up the bales. She did it a
second time, and then another guy took her and ran her up to the jump. She
gathered her legs under her, ears forward, and sprang. "Get up, come
on!" Her front paws gripped the top and she was over! I grabbed her collar
and fed her some treats. "Good girl, well done!" They raised the
boards – 6.3ft. Three dogs were out already. Sparkie made it first try this
time! Boy did the crowd ever yell! Another two dogs failed – one of them was
Tess. They added another board. I showed Sparkie the treat and then went up. I
was nervous as I looked down at my little black dog. It was one massive leap.
Could she do it? "Sparkie, come!" Sparkie bolted forward like a shot,
and leapt up. My heart was in her mouth as the little dog fell down again.
"Come on, get up!" This time she ran from further, leaping higher.
Her paws scrambled for grip, didn’t find it and she fell again. We were going
to be out and I knew it. So next time I reached down and caught her collar,
hoisting her into the ute. "Yeah, good dog! You did it, well done!" I
was so proud of my little pup! 4th place!!
