I waved goodbye to my friend Matthew as we drove down the drive way. It was May the 5th, and we were finally leaving Beerajondo. The bus was packed full – pillows, bedding, boxes, furniture, toys, and more. Sparkie sat on the floor. “Sorry girl, there’s no room on the seat,” I said. Sparkie reluctantly lay down on her blanket. I sighed and looked out the window. Darkness came and we were still driving. I grabbed a pillow and a blanket from the roof-high pile and snuggled down. At midnight we arrived in Gympie, where Daddy put most of the things in storage. I ended up sleeping on my bed while they were still unpacking! Then, at 3am, I awoke as the bus started again. I yawned, got out of bed, and made up my way back to my seat. The bus was going up a hill, and the engine roared. That’s odd, I thought. Then it slowed right down although the engine was making a huge racket. “What’s going on?” I asked. “Quiet, let Daddy concentrate,” came the answer from Mummy. Now I really got worried. Jessica was also up again, and looked at me with fear in her eyes. I held onto the edge of my seat with one hand and held Sparkie’s collar with the other. The bus engine went quieter and then the bus started rolling backwards. My heart leapt in fear, but Daddy floored the accelerator and the bus struggled up the hill at last. “What happened?” Nobody knew, but luckily it never happened again.
